5-Minute Christian Meditation to Break Free from Anxiety
Share
Anxiety is too much, and we are unable to focus on day-to-day life, duties, or even on our faith. I had anxiety, and it started limiting my day-to-day activities. At that time, the Bible became my haven of comfort—Psalm 23 and Psalm 121, specifically. These verses kept reminding me of God's presence and His steady care. If you're stressed, take five minutes to calm your heart, focus on His truth, and put your worries in His hands.
Step 1: Identify a Quiet Place
Choose a quiet, distraction-free space where you can sit quietly. Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths, allowing yourself to settle into the moment.
Step 2: Breathe and Release
Breathe in through your nose for four counts, hold for four counts, and release slowly through your mouth for six counts. As you breathe, focus on letting go of your concerns into the care of God. Do this cycle three times.
Step 3: Meditate on Scripture
Meditate on these two powerful scriptures:
Psalm 23:1-2 – "The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters."
Psalm 121:1-2 – "I lift up my eyes to the hills—where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth."
Whisper these verses softly to yourself. Let them filter into your heart, calling back God's care and provision to mind.
Step 4: Offer Your Fears to God
Sit awhile and say something to God in your heart. Speak sincerely with Him quietly or aloud. Visualize laying every concern before His hands, having faith that He is sovereign.
Step 5: Abide in the Presence of God
Now, just remain quiet for a minute or two. Allow yourself to settle within the reality of God's love and sovereignty. If your mind roams, bring your focus back to the scriptures you meditated on graciously.
Final Encouragement
Christian meditation is a wonderful way of shifting your focus from anxiety and towards faith. Christian meditation allows us to move from the chaos of our thoughts to the peace of Jesus Christ. In five minutes, you can experience the peace of God that exceeds understanding (Philippians 4:6-7). Whenever anxiety tries to overwhelm, return to this simple practice, and remind yourself—God's got you.
